Gabrielle Fouche Williams
I was born in Atlanta
and raised in Washington, D.C. to a single mom and a supportive family. My
mother passed away in a tragic car accident when I was 13, an event that
changed me forever. Although I was emotionally and spiritually lost due to
various traumas leading up to and through my college years, I was supported and
loved by my Spelman sisters who were determined to see the best in me at a time
when I simply did not love myself.
After college, I
taught in a bilingual school in Madrid. Then I returned to work at the U.S. State
department. I found that I just didn't fit into the usual office environment
and soon found myself on the road again - this time teaching in Brazil for
three years. I was fortunate to be taken in by a circle of incredible Black
women healers and holistic therapists who introduced me to spiritual healing
work. I also met my husband-to-be Lucas, my bonus son Kaleb, and now we are
expecting our son, Milo Paz. I recently returned to Washington, DC, where I am
working as a teacher and continuing my training as a holistic and shamanic
healer.

My message is one of
hope, self-love, and self-care. As Spelman women, we hold ourselves to a very
high standard. We face incredible pressure to achieve excellence. We also have
many responsibilities to our families and communities, as we have been reared
as leaders, torchbearers, and examples. But, as the saying goes, you cannot
pour from an empty cup.
It is first and foremost
IMPERATIVE to take care of ourselves; we must heal our wounds, take time for
reflection, develop a healing practice, fine tune our health, and make space
within lives for us to get to know ourselves well.
